Residents up in arms over poor maintenance

SRI Muda assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafiei has taken the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) to task for poor maintenance of several areas in Bandar Puteri.

Shuhaimi said he had received many complaints from residents and had seen for himself the poor condition of the area.

“For example, silt fills up a back lane of a row of shophouses in the area every time it floods.
“The developer had not built it according to specifications and it is narrower than it should have been,” he said.

Some restaurant and workshop owners were also discharging engine and cooking oil into the drains, causing an overflow into the narrow back lane.
An electrical shop owner in the area said, because of the silt in the drains, water overflowed into her shop everytime it rained.

“The flood waters have spoilt some electrical appliances over the years.
“I have been complaining to the developer and MPK but nothing has been done,” she said.
Two car wash businesses in the area were also found to have cemented part of the public parking bays for their own use.

When approached, the owner of one of the carwash business said no one told her it was wrong to do it.

“MPK personnel told me that I have to pay a monthly fee for two parking bays and I am doing that,” she added.

Other complaints included uncollected garbage such as garden waste left in garbage bags.
Shuhaimi urged the state government to reconsider appointing the lowest bidder in an open tender process.

“The contractors who ask for little money compromise on the service offered,” he added.
Several MPK personnel accompanied Shuhaimi during his visit.
Some of the mess has since been cleared up by MPK.
