Selangor upset over MACC quizzing two PKR lawmakers
The MACC has issued notices ordering Batu Caves assemblyman Amirudin Shari and Sri Muda assemblyman Shuhaimi Shafie to come to their headquarters here to have their statements recorded.
“We believe there is a possibility that MACC is being used by the Umno-led Barisan Nasional (BN) to seized power in Selangor as they did in Perak, in 2009,” newly-appointed state communications director Dr Badrul Amin Baharom said today.
He pointed out that both men were rumoured to be among four PKR assemblymen who were going to resign in protest against Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim’s leadership. The assemblymen have denied this.
The rumours started circulating after the Selangor Mentri Besar relinquished his post at state PKR chief last Sunday in favour of party vice-president Mohd Azmin Ali, who is also Gombak MP and Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman.
Badrul believes that calling in the lawmakers now was part of a series of moves to topple the Pakatan Rakyat state government.
“We urge the MACC to be professional in carrying out their duties,” he said.
He also pointed out that MACC should also investigate BN law makers who are clearly involved in graft.
Despite their concerns, he said both lawmakers, accompanied by their lawyers, will cooperate with MACC investigations tomorrow.
They are scheduled to be questioned at 3pm.
The MACC is already embroiled in an inquest over the mysterious death of Selangor political aide Teoh Beng Hock who died last July 16 after overnight questioning at the commission’s Selangor headquarters.
Khalid then told the MACC to use the state government offices if it wanted to question state officials.
