Selangor Approves 128ha For Non-Muslim Houses Of Worship

SHAH ALAM, March 30 (Bernama) -- Selangor has approved 128 hectares of land for the construction of non-Muslim houses of worship throughout the state, the State Assembly was told on Wednesday.

Executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar said the state government, through the Non-Muslim Affairs Committee, approved 90 applications for the purpose.

Of the total, 114 hectares were for Chinese temples, 7.67 hectares for Hindu temples, 4.74 hectares for churches and 0.74 hectare for gurdwaras, he said in reply to Shuhaimi Shafiei (PKR-Sri Muda).

Dr Xavier also said that the state government had no plan to come up with a masterplan for the construction of non-Muslim houses of worship.

The government, through the committee, would however monitor and solve issues regarding the need for such houses in certain areas, he said.

He also said that the construction of a temple in Section 23 here would start after the area's assemblyman's office, the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and the temple committee agreed on the cost.

Based on the initial agreement, he said, PKNS would be responsible for the construction of an access road to the temple site.
