Selangor PKR: Najib’s call hints at waning Malay support

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s warning to Selangor Umno that a fractured Malay vote bloc was meaningless proves the party can no longer bank on support from Malay-majority areas in the state, Selangor PKR has claimed.

Selangor PKR information chief Shuhaimi Shafiei said Najib’s statement — meant to galvanise Selangor Umno into reclaiming the richest state in Malaysia — contained a note of worry despite the Umno president’s apparent confidence.

“He (Najib) clearly stated that Umno Selangor can no longer depend on Malay-majority constituencies to support Umno,” Shuhaimi said in a statement today.

The Sri Muda assemblyman added this also showed Najib was “anxious and concerned” about the effectiveness of the latter’s attempts to rebuild Malay confidence in Umno Selangor.

Najib called on Selangor Umno yesterday to forget its historic losses in Election 2008 and bounce back to help Barisan Nasional (BN) retake the state from the opposition in the next general election, which he said was “just around the corner”.

“We must not allow our image to continue to be besmirched and wallow because of the defeat,” he had said in a speech in Shah Alam last night.

Najib, who is also BN chairman, also said Selangor Umno must be ready to use whatever “weapon was at their disposal” to win back the state.

Shuhaimi also claimed Najib’s speech implicitly proved that Malay support for Pakatan Rakyat (PR) had increased to a comfortable level despite BN’s constant attacks against the opposition pact’s de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Support from Malays in Satok and Balingian during the recent Sarawak state election showed that Sarawak Malays too have rejected BN,” he said.

“That reality worries Najib’s leadership in Selangor. Even though Kemas and other agencies were roped in to help register new voters and move Sabah voters to the target state constituency, it still alarms Najib.”

Shuhaimi said Najib’s concerns were likely due to internal upheavals in Selangor BN and the worsening leadership crisis in Selangor Umno.

“Power struggles and jealousy are increasing in Selangor Umno and there is a lack of co-ordination between the state Umno... and BN component parties like MCA, MIC and PPP,” he said.

He pointed out that “power crazy” Umno Selangor still behaved like the “big brother” in BN, causing partners MCA and MIC to feel “bullied”.

Shuhaimi added that Najib’s “clarion call” had only strengthened Selangor PKR’s resolve and determination to train its machinery as a neat and systematic force to help the people.

It would be wise for PR to concentrate on serving Selangor population rather than answering najib calls. The population will stand behind a government that serve the population, not corrupted, fair and transparent. Selangor is not out of the wood and faces numerous problem. Like the problems on sand mining, affordable housing, alam flora, squatters, indian temple, etc However - it is still better than under bn government.

UMNO may have a chance to wrest back in Selangor if not for the latest botched sexual video tape where clips were beamed on free prime time tvs into our homes, thus, corrupting the minds of all Malaysians, young and old.

It not only corrupts the minds of youths,it creates a desire for sex among the old as well. Now, the truth has come out and it is not DSAI on the tape! You can fool some people some of the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time, UMNO!

Just how can I place my trusts and that of my future generations in the hands of some people who even went to the extent of swearing the Holy Quran and in the process abusing the Holy Book just for the sake of bringing down a fellow politician?

Fight on ideologies, tell us how you can do better than Pakatan, how you can improve the environment, by promising the Selangorians no rare earth projects, controlling inflation, which is making the lives of Selangorians difficult, controlling corruption. Stop racial abuses and stoking of racial tension, solve social problems! We want to hear more of that than just SEX, SEX, and more SEX!

Take on DSAI as a politician, not even as an enemy, just a human being, a fellow opposition politician, then, I will take my hats off to you. But, what you had been doing since day 1 of 2010, cannot really win you my votes.

Threats, intimidations, bullying the minority Indians and Chinese, just how are you going to expect them to vote you? Selangorians must do all their best to protect Selangor at all cost. We must stop our wealth being further plundered. If PR is not ready for an election, they can delay their State Elections, and concentrate on Perak, Negri Sembilan, Terengganu, Pahang, Sabah and Sarawak first.

Malaysians, let us go for CHANGE!

InsyaAllah, come GE 13, the Malays of Selangor particularly in urban settings like PJ, Shah Alam and Gombak will bury BN for good
No Malay in their right state of mind wants to reelect a party that produces state coffers sucking thieves like Khir Toyo and the late Zakaria Md Deros
I hope our Malay brethren in rural settings like Hulu Selangor will join us in making sure that UMNO does not win the country's crown jewel state
