Meetings At Seven PKR Divisions Postponed Due To Vandalism, Technical Issues

PETALING JAYA, Sept 27 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has postponed the meetings of seven party divisions due to technical reasons and vandalism, secretary general Saifuddin Nasution said.

He said meetings for PKR divisions in Klang, Kapar and Kuala Langat had to be postponed after ballot boxes were broken and ballot papers were found scattered on the floor.

Speaking to reporters at the PKR headquarters, here, he said meetings at the Petaling Jaya Selatan, Jerai, Merbok and Kuala Nerus branches were postponed due to technical reasons.

He said chaos at the meetings were the work of groups wanted to stir trouble and tarnish the party's image.

"Besides, there's an extraordinary enthusiasm among party members to take part actively in the party's election process in which a direct election system is introduced for the first time," he added.

Saifuddin said the central selection committee was now scrutinising reports of the incidents provided by teams supervising the elections.

He said from Sept 17 until Sunday, 96 per cent or 159 of the 166 divisions had held their annual general meetings and elections.

Meanwhile a Selangor PKR leader, Shuhaimi Shafie, claimed that the commotions at several PKR division meetings on Sunday were "an organised plan" by groups out to tarnish the party's image.

He told Bernama in Shah Alam that based on initial report, the commotions in Kapar, Klang, Kuala Langat and Kota Raja were not caused by party members.

"They deliberately provoked the members and disturbed the election process," he said, adding that the actions were premeditated.
